The Mayor of Linz, Mr. Luger (SPÖ), wishes to terminate the theatre contract with the Province of Upper Austria, which regulates the financial participation of the City of Linz in the Landestheater and the concerts of the Bruckner Orchestra in the Brucknerhaus, with the votes of the SPÖ and the FPÖ.

- No to the termination of the theatre contract without a viable alternative which secures the financial support of the Landestheater and the Bruckner Orchestra for the future.
- Yes to the commitment of the City of Linz to financially support the Landestheater Linz and the Bruckner Orchestra Linz as two of the most important local cultural institutions.
Should the financial means regulated by the theatre contract be lost, the Linzer Landestheater and the Bruckner Orchestra Linz will no longer be what they are today, i.e. internationally renowned cultural institutions appreciated annually by well over 300,000 visitors. The audience would have to accept massive cuts in theatre and concert offerings in terms of programme, level, quality and quantity.
As the European Capital of Culture 2009, Linz would thus suffer a blatant loss of quality of life and an enormous loss of image for itself.
