ETC Development Grants: Sustainability

Apply now for funding to support international collaboration between three ETC Member Theatres.

The European Theatre Convention (ETC) is delighted to launch a new round of Development Grants as part of our Sustainable Theatre programme, supporting pioneering international co-creations that champion sustainability and apply the principles of the ETC Theatre Green Book.

This season, ETC awards two development grants of €4,500 each to support collaborative artistic projects between three ETC Member Theatres. The funding is intended to kick-start innovative partnerships and foster experimentation around ecological practices and green transformation in theatre-making.

Projects should focus on developing new artistic narratives and collaboration models that contribute to:

  • Sustainable theatre practices aligned with the ETC Theatre Green Book
  • Theatres' environmental responsibility and greening efforts
  • Bold and experimental approaches to co-creation and international exchange

These grants are designed to support early-stage development, encouraging innovation and trial-and-error. Unfinished or exploratory projects are welcome – the emphasis is on process over product.

How it works

Three ETC Member Theatres must jointly apply for one grant of up to €4,500. The partners are free to allocate the funds between them as they see fit.

Eligible costs include:

  • Travel and accommodation to facilitate collaboration
  • Artist fees
  • Production costs
  • Expenses related to implementing green practices (e.g. sustainable materials, digital solutions, etc.)

Selection criteria

  • Artistic vision and relevance to the ETC Green Book
  • Clarity and feasibility of the project proposal
  • Degree of innovation and collaborative approach
  • Impact on sustainable theatre practice

Apply now

Only ETC Member Theatres are eligible to apply.

Application deadline: Sunday 31 August 2025
