ETC Collaboration Development Grants: Sustainable Theatre

Call for Proposals

Deadline: 15 February 2026

The European Theatre Convention (ETC) is delighted to announce a new Collaboration Development Grant for Sustainable Theatre, offering three grants of €4,500 each to support ETC member theatres in developing collaborative projects towards climate neutrality.

Purpose

This grant aims to encourage creative and flexible collaborations among ETC member theatres that explore, test, or implement aspects of the European Theatre Green Book (TGB) — whether in buildings, productions, or operations. We want to give you the space to experiment, exchange ideas, and strengthen your sustainability journey.

What You Can Do

We are open to any format or approach that helps move your theatre — and our network — closer to a sustainable future. Your project might be:

  • A classic collaboration between several theatres;
  • A research or pilot project exploring a specific aspect of the ETC TGB;
  • A staff exchange to share sustainability knowledge or practices;
  • A digital initiative, such as developing an app, toolkit, or resource;
  • A community-building activity strengthening the ETC TGB network;
  • A collective effort such as compiling case studies or creating an inspiration booklet.
  • The scope is entirely up to you — we welcome bold ideas and small, practical steps alike.

Who Can Apply

Applications are open to ETC member theatres.

Each project should involve a minimum of three theatres.

There is no upper limit to the number of partners — the more collaboration, the better!

Projects involving participants from the TGB Joint Group are particularly encouraged, but theatres not yet deeply engaged in the Green Book process are equally welcome to apply.

Expected Output

We understand these are challenging times. The expected output of your collaboration can remain light — a pilot initiative, shared learning, or a small-scale tangible result. The key aim is to advance your sustainability journey, internationally discuss concrete questions, increase your network and professional relations in putting a green agenda in your theatre and share insights with the wider ETC community.

Support and Matchmaking

If you are looking for partners or inspiration, join our upcoming Partner-Up Session during the ETC International Theatre Conference in Riga, Saturday 8 November 12.00-13.00, where you can brainstorm ideas and find collaborators.

Timeline

Deadline for applications: 15 February 2026
Projects implemented: Spring–Autumn 2026

Funding

Each selected project will receive a €4,500 grant to support collaboration costs, staff time, or implementation activities related to your project idea.
