Deutsches Theater Berlin Invited to Theatertreffen 2021

The jury selected two productions as two of the ten most remarkable productions for the 2021 festival edition: 'The Magic Mountain', and 'Mary Stuart'

21 April 2021

Deutsches Theater Berlin has been invited to the Theatertreffen 2021 with two productions: Out of 285 analogue or digital productions, an independent jury of critics selected two productions of Deutsches Theater as two of the ten most remarkable productions for the 2021 festival edition: The Magic Mountain / Der Zauberberg (director: Sebastian Hartmann) and Mary Stuart (director: Anne Lenk).

Mary Stuart
by Friedrich Schiller
director: Anne Lenk
The Theatertreffen jury describes the protagonists Maria and Elisabeth as a "nightmare couple who hide behind poker faces and masks at crucial moments instead of practising female solidarity".

The Magic Mountain
based on Thomas Mann
director: Sebastian Hartmann
The Theatertreffen jury emphasises the philosophical focus of the production on "the phenomenon of time and finiteness, the question of the right life".

This year’s Theatertreffen is scheduled to take place from 13 to 24 May 2021. Both productions of Deutsches Theater Berlin invited to the Theatertreffen 2021 will be shown digitally in May 2021.
