ALASKA

Dakh Theatre - Centre of Contemporary Art Ukraine / Kyiv

24 February 2025

The ETC Drama Committee European Selection 2022 'ALASKA' will be performed at the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre!

ALASKA is a performance emblematic of Mariupol. It captures the voices of the city’s youth after the loss of their theatre. The play will tour three European countries, bringing together local young actors and Ukrainians to form a new troupe. Through a devising-documentary approach, it reinvents itself after a seven-day workshop.

The themes explored in ALASKA resonate deeply with young audiences across Europe, addressing issues such as bullying, violence, cruelty, as well as shared fears and anxieties—universal challenges faced by children regardless of location.

The play is based on the firsthand accounts of children who have experienced war, endured the trauma of armed conflict, lost loved ones, and were forced to leave their homes as refugees. ALASKA serves as both a message of peace and a stark warning to the world.

During its guest performance at the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre, the creative team will develop a new, multilingual version of the play, engaging young residents of the Tri-City region in this collaborative effort.

Reservations and Details: Seats can be reserved for ETC Members. If you wish to attend the performance on 24 February 2025, please contact Viktoriia Fedoriv at cca.dakh@gmail.com
