D. Maria II at Home

Everything is allowed, except going outside!

March 2020

Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Lisbon (Portugal) during the coronavirus outbreak

In Portugal, Teatro Nacional D. Maria II is also closed, but not necessarily more distant from the public. As a way to encourage the Portuguese people to include more culture in their new routines, the theatre created the online initiative “D. Maria II at Home”.

Every Friday and Saturday, at 9 pm, D. Maria II will stream a different show from the dozens of its latest productions and co-productions. The videos will then be available for watching or re-watching at any time.

Daily, its online followers will also be challenged by the quizzes prepared on the theatre's Instagram and Facebook.

Families will also be invited to let their imagination run wild and share their “theatrical moment” with the “D. Maria II at Home” movement. Everyone is encouraged to stage small plays, to recreate famous scenes from theatre, cinema or television, make up stories or do text readings... anything goes, except going outside!

Videos can be shared on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #dmariaiiemcasa, #teatroemcasa and #ficoemcasa.

Regularly, the theatre will share the best videos on social media. At the end of the quarantine, there will be prizes for the most original videos: subscriptions for 20, 10 and 5 shows, for the next theatre season.
