NT Mini

National Theatre Ivan Vazov

27 February - 2 March 2024

Ivan Vazov National Theatre cordially invites ETC Member Theatres between 27 February and 2 March 2024 to Sofia to enjoy five consecutive nights with a fine selection of the theatre’s latest main stage productions.

In 2024 the National Theatre in Sofia celebrates 120 years from its foundation. This year also marks two years since the new manager, Vasil Vasilev and his artistic team took over the leadership of Ivan Vazov National Theatre.

One of the main goals of the current team is to rethink the role of the National Theatre in contemporary society within a global context by strengthening the local communities and intensifying the international dialogue.

Apart from opening up the institution to international artists and teams with a distinct artistic signature, the team is focused on bringing the productions of the theatre to other European (and not only) stages.

With this aim, the theatre is launching an experimental new format of NT Mini - a mini showcase of our most distinguished main stage productions, created in the last two years.

You are invited to join us between 27 February and 2 March 2024 for five consecutive nights with a fine selection of the theatre’s latest productions, namely:

  • 27.02 - 'The Tempest' by William Shakespeare, directed by Robert Wilson (US); premiered in Nov 2021
  • 28.02 - 'The Hague' by Sasha Denisova, directed by Galin Stoev (BG/FR); premiered in Sep 2023
  • 29.02 - 'Moby Dick', based on the novel by Herman Melville; stage adaptation by Alexander Sekulov; directed by Diana Dobreva (BG); expected premiere in Feb 2024
  • 01.03 - 'Orpheus', directed by Jernej Lorenci (SLO) premiered in Oct 2022
  • 02.03 - 'Nora' based on Henrik Ibsen, directed by Timofey Kulyabin (RU/DE); premiered in Dec 2022

All performances will be with English subtitles.
