Love Stories in Times of Covid-19

The ensemble of the Deutsches Theater reads Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio

March 2020

Deutsches Theater Berlin (Germany) during the coronavirus outbreak

Only a few days before the Covid-19 virus hit cultural and social life in Germany, the Deutsches Theater Berlin celebrated the premiere of Decameron directed by Kirill Serebrennikov. Soon after, the decision was made to cancel all shows and rehearsals.

While they are staying at home, members of the DT-Ensemble are reading the stories of Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron to their audience online. In the book, written in the 14th century, ten people try to escape from the Black Death in Florence and tell each other stories, which celebrate life and love.

Every day at 6 pm, one story will be published on deutschestheater.de and on all of the theatre’s social media channels.
