Invitation to an International Drama Symposium in Kranj, Slovenia

Prešeren Theatre Kranj (Slovenia), who ETC Members had the occasion to meet in Amsterdam last December, will host the Jubilee 50th Week of Slovenian Drama from 27 March until, it is expected, 5 April. This is the central festival of performances based on Slovenian dramatic texts, which is organised annually by the Prešeren Theatre Kranj.

The festival promotes the performance, creation and promotion of Slovenian dramatic texts, as well as their staging and performance abroad. It does this in collaboration with theatres and theatre institutes both at home and abroad. The festival has developed and expanded throughout its history and, in recent years, it has increasingly been involved in international collaborations.

On 29 March 2020, as a part of the activities celebrating the festival's 50th anniversary, Prešeren Theatre Kranj will organise an international symposium: The Care for National Drama and the Possibilities for Its Promotion Within and Beyond the National Borders.

Prešeren Theatre Kranj would like to exchange experiences with representatives from various national milieus and explore opportunities to make connections. Prešeren Theatre Kranj invites ETC Members to take part in the symposium and to present your experiences on this topic.

The festival will provide participants at the symposium with overnight accommodation and food during their stay in Kranj up to four days. Prešeren Theatre Kranj also invites you to join us at the festival premiere, which will begin at the Gorenjska Museum in Kranj on 27 March 2020 at 17:00 with the opening of the exhibition ’50 Years of the Week of the Slovenian Drama Festival in Kranj’ and continue at 19.00 on stage with the premiere performance of the first play to have been written in the Slovenian language—the Škofja Loka Passion Play by Father Romuald/Lovrenc Marušič, directed by Jernej Lorenci and co-produced by the Prešeren Theatre Kranj and the Ptuj City Theatre.
