Arv og miljø

FIND

17 & 18 April 2026

After her father's death, Bergljot returns to a family she distanced herself from years ago. The catalyst is an inheritance dispute over two summer houses by the sea. What begins as a sibling rivalry over property gradually unearths repressed memories: old wounds, differing versions of what happened. Bergljot's accounts of her childhood are denied by her family. Closeness and loyalty crumble over the question of who is believed and whose memory is considered valid. For years, two factions of the family exist side by side, separated by silence and guilt.

"Arv og miljø" is the stage adaptation of the novel of the same name by Vigdis Hjorth (published in German as "Ein falsches Wort"). Kjersti Horn directs it as an evening about the despair of standing up for a truth that is constantly contradicted. How can one assert oneself against a system of dependency and denial? And what is the price of clinging to one's own memory?

Vigdis Hjorth, born in Oslo in 1959, is one of Norway's most renowned authors. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Norwegian Critics' Prize and the Book Dealers' Prize, and she has been nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize, the National Book Award, and the International Booker Prize. Her most recent book is "Repetition."

Kjersti Horn, born in 1977, has worked as a director for Stockholm City Theatre, Malmö City Theatre, the Dramaten in Stockholm, and the National Theatre in Oslo. Since 2025, she has been the Artistic Director of the Norske Teatret in Oslo. In 2015 and 2020, she received the Norwegian Heddapris in the category "Production of the Year" for her productions of "Hamlet" and "Raskolnikov." Her recent productions include "Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo and "Changer: méthode" by Édouard Louis.
