European Theatre Forum 2020 – European Performing Arts in Focus

11 13 November 2020

We are proud to announce the European Theatre Forum – an initiative in the frame of the German EU-Presidency in cooperation with the German Minister of State for Culture and Media and the European Commission.

The European Theatre Forum 2020: European Performing Arts in Focus is an international platform for vision, discourse, exchange, networking and policymaking to strategically strengthen the structurally highly fragmented theatre sector as one of Europe’s major art forms. It will offer, for the first time, a European representation for the entire field of theatre and performing arts, within and outside Europe. In focus: Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the performing arts and perspectives for the sector.

Over the coming 6 months, the initiative group of the three organisations (European Theatre Convention, International Theatre Institute Germany & Bundesverband freie darstellende Künste) will work with a Consortium of European theatre networks to coordinate a dialogue and work process in order to design the programme of a three-day high-level sectorial dialogue meeting with policy makers in November 2020 and to facilitate the development of a cultural policy strategic agenda for the European theatre sector.

The European Theatre Forum meeting will take place from 11 to 13 November 2020 for 150 theatre and performing arts representatives. It will take place in Dresden, Germany, during the festival "Fast Forward - European Theatre Festival for Young Directors". A digital alternative will be planned in parallel, with consideration of current event and travel restrictions. The Forum will also be accessible via live streaming.

More information will come over the upcoming months.
