Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana Unveils a Dynamic October Programme Featuring Festival Previews, New Productions, and International Opportunities

The company Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana (Portugal) is set to captivate audiences with a diverse and ambitious programme for October. The month marks the continuation of a vibrant new season at the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre, featuring major festival announcements, engaging new shows for all ages, a deep dive into cinematic history, and new initiatives to support artistic creation.

9th Viana do Castelo Theatre Festival Programme Launch

The excitement for the region's premiere theatre event begins on October 11th with the official programme launch for the 9th Viana do Castelo Theatre Festival. The evening will unveil the full lineup for the festival, which runs from November 14th to 22nd. This year's edition will feature a total of 10 compelling shows over 9 days. Following the presentation, attendees will be treated to a performance by the local singer MALVA, accompanied by the ARTEAM orchestra.

Film Series Explores Cinema History: ‘CINEstories’

In partnership with the Ao Norte Association, the Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana presents 'CINEstories – A History of World Cinema'. This series offers a guided journey led by Filipe M. Guerra through the essential authors and works that have shaped global cinema. It will provide a comprehensive vision of the medium's evolution, marked by significant moments of creativity, the advancement of cinematic language, societal reflection, and technological progress.

Engaging Young Audiences: Two New Productions

This month, the company places a special focus on theatre for children and families with two distinct projects:

- 'Fish again?!': The newest creation from the company's School Theatre Project, 'Fish again?!' will be presented to over 1,500 children from municipal schools between October 13th and 24th. This co-creation humorously explores mealtime dynamics from a child's perspective, asking: 'Just because we don't know how to cook yet... they don't want us to come to the table and say... fish again?!'. This is part of the larger School Theatre Initiative, which presents 6 different creations to approximately 14,000 students across 85 educational institutions.

- 'What if I rain?': On October 18th, families are invited to see 'What if I rain?' at the Experimental Room of the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre. The play follows the brilliant scientist Doctor Nimbus Electricus Volticus, who invents a cloud, 'Cláudia', capable of raining anywhere to make plants grow instantly. But when the experiment falters, Doctor Nimbus and Cláudia embark on an important mission to discover the magical world of tears and emotions. The show was previously presented in 32 free sessions across 17 public elementary schools for all children in the municipality.

Fostering Creation: The 'Open Room' Artistic Residency Program

Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana is proud to continue its commitment to the 'Open Room – Artistic Residency Program', now open to international artists. Firstly conceived to support creators from Viana do Castelo, Alto Minho, it now broadens its scope to provide space and time for performing arts projects in theatre, dance, music, and cross-disciplinary works across borders. Selected projects receive a residency of up to 10 business days in the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre Rehearsal Room, with access to technical resources including sound amplification and lighting equipment.
