The flagship event for June is the 12th edition of the Guillermo Heras Summer School for Actors, taking place from June 22 to 27. This year, the residency is dedicated to the work of Tiago Rodrigues, the renowned Portuguese playwright and Director of the Festival d’Avignon.
International Reach: The call for applications saw an exceptionally high volume of submissions, including a significant number of international applicants. This confirms the school's reputation as a premier laboratory for artistic exchange and professional qualification in the theatre sector.
Immersive Residency: Participants will enjoy a unique creative environment at the centenary Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre, which includes free accommodation for the duration of the training.
Final Presentation: The intensive week culminates in a public rehearsal on June 27 at 7:00pm in the Main Hall.
Educational Outreach: Over 3,000 Children Reached in May
Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana continues its commitment to audience development through its School Theatre Project. May was marked by the successful premieres of two new productions that combined will be seen by more than 3,000 children:
‘Que palavra é esta?’ ('What word is that?'): The Company’s 175th creation is specifically aimed at Primary Schools. Co-created and interpreted by Rafaela Sá, this show playfully explores the meaning of complex words and the joy of language.
‘Quantas cores tens?’ ('How many colours do you have?'): The 176th creation, which also saw its first performances in May and continues through June, is designed for Kindergartens. Co-created and interpreted by Adriel Filipe, the show uses colors and poetry to engage the youngest audiences in reflections on identity and sharing.
These initiatives are part of the broader 2025-2026 school offer, which aims to reach over 14,000 students throughout the municipality.
A Hub for Research: The Cafeteria Library
The TN-CDV also highlights the Library located in the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre Caffe. This physical space is intrinsically linked to the European Theatre Convention (ETC) Online Library, providing a vital bridge to European theatrical knowledge.
Through this link, local artists and the public can access:
Specialized Casebooks: Resources on Sustainable Theatre, Digital Theatre, and Participatory Theatre.
Sustainability Tools: Practical guidelines like the Theatre Green Book (TGB), which supported the Company in achieving its recent Intermediate Level certification for sustainability.
Industry Research: Access to the ETC Journals and applied research studies on reaching "net-zero" goals.
