European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia will kick off on Saturday 8 February 2025 with a grand opening ceremony, accompanied by the first two performances of the Dodecalogy 1972–1983 series by Tomi Janežič.
1972 is a performance for one spectator at a time, and 1973 will be performed on the small stage of Slovenian National Theatre Nova Gorica.
Directed by Tomi Janežič, the theatre Dodecalogy 1972–1983 is part of the European Capital of Culture official programme. It is a year-long theatre omnibus of twelve theatre productions. This transgenerational documentary fiction explores Nova Gorica as a place where characters grow up and as a place that is connected to other cities in surprising ways. The series explores family stories to address the topics of border, socio-political change, war and others. It describes a network of life destinies that span across time and are marked by travelling and migration. But above all, this is an omnibus about theatre itself.
