This edition of the European Theatre Convention's high-profile event where the arts meet policy, the European Theatre Talks, focused on dance for the first time.
Hosted by ETC Member Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse, in Paris on 25 March 2026, the European Theatre Talks explored the historical links between dance and freedom in Europe, dance as a political practice, and the growing pressures on artistic freedom, together with leading voices from across the sector.
We’re also thrilled to highlight an intervention by ETC Executive Director Heidi Wiley as part of this timely conversation.
As part of 'Rassemblement #4,' ETC Executive Director Heidi Wiley contributed to the panel 'Freedom of Creation Under Pressure.'
Wiley underscored the urgent need to safeguard cultural spaces where artistic expression can remain bold, critical, and free.
Her intervention highlighted how increasing political, economic, and ideological pressures are shaping the conditions for creation, and why collective European action, such as the hashtag#ResistanceNowTogether campaign, is essential.
From tracing the deep historical ties between dance and freedom to examining its role as a political practice today, this event opened up essential dialogue across the sector.
A heartfelt thank you Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse, Telerama, all speakers, and everyone who joined for this vital conversation.
