In 2023, the challenges that European theatre faces are clear. Funding cuts, lost audiences, limits on artistic expression. A post-pandemic society struggling with a cost-of-living crisis and impending climate breakdown.

Yet it’s equally clear that theatre has a desire to share what is working around Europe — to continue making progress, together. The Spring ETC International Theatre Conference, hosted by JK Opole Theatre (Opole/Poland), ran from 10-14 May 2023 and focused on topics of vital importance:

  • Reducing the carbon impact of theatre
  • Making a strong political case for support, and
  • Using digital forms to enhance the reach and accessibility of theatre.

ETC Members were invited to attend performances of contemporary theatre from Poland each evening, drawn from JK Opole Theatre’s diverse and ambitious programme, "A theatre of many voices, different views".

The ETC conference took place from Wednesday 10 May, 18:00 to Saturday 13 May, 17:30.

Members-only
The conferences are only open to ETC Member Theatres and invited guests.
