ETC International Theatre Conference 2022: Care - “We now know that caring for each other is more important than ever”

The theme for ETC International Theatre Conference hosted from 3-6 November 2022 in partnership with Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in Lisbon, (Portugal) was ‘Care’.

Informed by the legacy of the pandemic, the theme covers the large-scale acts of care required of national and international institutions. Portugal has made great efforts to make cultural work more stable and to offer greater financial support for artists in-between roles.

What similar acts of care can be taken on sustainability and the environment?

Can a caring, supportive network of theatres develop these themes across Europe—protecting theatres from closure and helping them to remain accessible and relevant?

This edition of the ETC International Theatre Conference is influenced by feminist thinkers such as bell hooks and Audre Lorde, exploring the ethics of care by looking at the relation of art practices and policies to personal decisions and responsibilities.

In a deep dive panel discussion we invite you to consider...what does it mean for theatre to care for people living through war in Ukraine? To care for artists’ healthcare and wellbeing as they become parents or lose their jobs? What does the way we choose to respond say about us, as individuals, and the places we work?

Members-only
The conferences are only open to ETC Member Theatres and invited guests.
