The Long-Awaited Return

JK Opole Theatre/Poland

Season 2020/2021

In the upcoming 2020/21 season, JK Opole Theatre will finally return to the audience, after eight months of lockdown and renovation works.

We will be kicking off the season with Urban Weeds, a small musical piece by Natasza Sołtanowicz, regarding the most important topic of today: climate change. Afterwards, one of the masters of Polish theatre, Anna Augustynowicz, will present an unorthodox take on King Lear, with fourteen actresses and one actor in a timeless, universal tale about the abuse of power. In November, Norbert Rakowski will direct Camera Buff 2020, an original story by Krzysztof Kieślowski that will be adapted to today to reveal our moral responsibility.

In December, we are launching Triennale Modelatornia, a programme dedicated to experimental forms that will culminate in a festival in 2023. Among many other activities (debates, readings, residencies, etc.), we will premiere new pieces by various performing artists, such as Anna Karasińska and Renata Piotrowska-Auffrett. We hope to see you in Opole!
