The 2026 season for Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana (TN-CDV) has a comprehensive artistic creation plan that features eight new productions while celebrating 35 years of activity. This milestone year begins with the following:
CAPACITEATRO: Theatre as an Instrument for Social Change
Teatro do Noroeste - Centro Dramático de Viana and the Alto Minho Intermunicipal Community are proud to invite participants to CAPACITEATRO. Starting in January, this pioneer 24-month program will travel across the 10 municipalities of Alto Minho region to equip educational, social, and cultural agents with dramatic and communicative expression skills.
The project utilizes theater tools as instruments for social change, specifically empowering those who work with vulnerable communities, including:
- Elderly individuals in isolation and people with disabilities.
- Minorities, immigrants, and youth at risk.
- Communities at risk of social exclusion.
Premiere: 'Mistério Da Vinci' (Da Vinci’s Mystery)
Rehearsals are underway for the first children's play of 2026, the Company’s 173rd creation, which is set to have a massive impact, with 4,600 children expected to attend the production.
- The Mystery: Directed by Adriel Filipe, the play explores the life of the ultimate polymath. Audiences are invited to discover: ‘Scientist, mathematician, engineer, painter, architect... Who invented so many things? To find out, you'll have to unravel this mystery!’.
- Access: Staged in the Main Hall of the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre, the production will include sessions for schools and families, continuing the Company's commitment to democratizing access to art.
Community & Reflection: The Regular Theatre Workshops
On 14 January, the weekly Regular Theatre Workshops shifted their focus from performance to intergenerational reflection. In a special session, participants from various groups - including ATIVAkids, ATIVAjúnior, ATIVAsénior and ‘While We Were Sailing’ - exchanged the stage for a ‘conversation circle’.
This dynamic of mediation allowed participants to debate and project the future of their artistic work. By prioritizing listening and pause, TN-CDV ensures that these workshops remain a relevant and transformative space for the entire Viana do Castelo community.
