A warm welcome to the 6th edition of the ETC European Theatre Academy and the first edition online!

The European Theatre Academy is specifically designed for theatre professionals at the beginning of their careers, with potential and ambition to grow internationally.

It provides an overview of different international collaboration forms and theatre systems, dealing with artistic as well as administrative, financial and legal questions in the European context. You benefit from expert lectures on funding and support, production and curating, touring and mobility in the arts. Group work sessions with selected mentors enable you to work on your own projects and delve into practical issues and considerations.

Leading professionals of the international theatre scene guide and accompany you throughout the Academy which becomes a working space of reflection, promotion of good practices and international networking.

As a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to organise this year's ETC European Theatre Academy remotely. The three days of masterclasses, mentoring and networking will exceptionally take place online via Zoom.

The programme is intense but also lives from your active presence and contribution at all times. Be assured that we will do our best to respect the timings announced in the programme.

To receive your certificate of the European Theatre Academy, participation in all sessions during the 3-days programme is compulsory.

Guidelines & Recommendations

What should you prepare?

Wednesday 01 July 2020 / 10:15 – 10:30 Presentation of the Participants

Be prepared to briefly present yourself in under a minute:

  • Who are you? Name, Country…
  • What field/function do you work in?
  • What is your main expectation and point of interest in regard to the Academy?

To ensure that everyone has time to present themselves, the ETC team will interrupt you after a minute if your presentation is too long, so be well-prepared!

Wednesday 01 July 2020 / 10:30 – 10:40 One-to-One Presentation of Projects

Prepare an Elevator Pitch of the project that you want to discuss and develop in the frame of the European Theatre Academy.

An elevator pitch is a brief, persuasive speech that you use to spark interest in your project.
A good elevator pitch should last no longer than 1-2 minutes. Make it interesting, memorable, and succinct. Explain what makes your project unique.

Keep in mind that your opposite might have questions to clarify and you have only 10 minutes in total to pitch your projects to each other, in a way that your opposite can report about your project afterwards.

Thursday 02 July 2020 and Friday 03 July 2020/ Mentoring sessions

If you wish to, you can prepare pictures or videos from your projects to show and discuss about during the mentored sessions in smaller groups.

What do you need?

A laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone. Any documents, photos, videos, etc that you might want to show to illustrate your project.

Almost all academy events will be on Zoom Meeting. Only the session Mobility of Artists in Times of Pandemic (Wednesday 01 July at 15:00-17:00) will be hosted by TalentLab (Théâtres de la Ville de Luxemburg, Luxemburg) on Webex. You will all receive the direct links to join each event in a confirmation email, sent on Monday 29 June, and in a second email from the TalentLab colleagues to join the session on Wednesday afternoon.

If you do not receive these emails, please contact Teresa Pfaud tpfaud@europeantheatre.eu.
