Púpätko

Divadlo Jána Palárika

31 March 2023

As we celebrated World Theatre Day for Children & Young People this week, it’s the perfect time to attend the premiere of ‘Púpätko’ (‘Belly Button’) on 31 March at the Divadlo Jána Palárika.

This performance, created especially for little ones and their parents, will let you immerse yourself in the enchanting beauty of the magical world of nature!

The director of Púpätko, Alicja Morawska-Rubczak,  specialises in creating plays for children from six months to three years. On this occasion, Divadlo Jána Palárika wanted to bring the best artists in the field and since toddler plays are not common in Slovakia, they decided to search elsewhere and invited a lovely team from Poland (Alicja Morawska-Rubczak, Iwona Skv, Barbara Małecka and Monika Kiwak) to help them.

This international cooperation was even more multicultural and interesting thanks to the assistant director Martha Kent, a young talented director from England, who was here via the ETC Artists Residency Programme.

'Púpätko' is about exploring the world and nature around us. The audience can watch how the nature elements change and affect the small seed and how it turns to be a beautiful flower. The production is almost without any words, and communicates with lights, movement, singing and rhythm.
