Call for Applications: International Women Theatre Leaders

Apply now for the Women Theatre Leaders Programme, a dynamic initiative empowering women in theatre leadership through international networking, workshops, and peer coaching. Deadline: 30 April 2025

We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new initiative designed to support and empower women in theatre leadership. This programme is designed for women in leadership roles within the theatre sector who are looking to strengthen their international network and engage in discussions on the latest trends.

The programme is available to members of the European Theatre Convention (ETC) or those who have been recommended by an ETC Member. There will be 10 spots available.

Through five interactive sessions, participants will engage in thematic workshops and peer-to-peer coaching, exploring essential leadership topics, enhancing their professional skills, and building resilience in the unique challenges of the theatre industry.

Programme Overview

The five sessions will include a blend of thematic workshops and peer-to-peer coaching. Participants will leave with valuable tools and strategies to enhance their leadership capabilities, tackle gender dynamics, and balance artistic vision with the practical demands of theatre leadership.

Session Descriptions:

Workshop 1: Navigating Mental Health and Resilience in Theatre Leadership

Theatre leadership often comes with high-pressure situations, long hours, and emotional labour. This workshop will focus on maintaining mental health and building resilience in leadership roles. Participants will explore strategies for coping with stress, preventing burnout, and maintaining well-being while leading their teams.

Workshop 2: Effective Leadership in a Creative Industry: Balancing Art and Business

Effective leadership in the theatre sector requires balancing creative vision with the realities of budgets, logistics, and team management. This session will focus on how to lead effectively while aligning both artistic and business goals, equipping you with frameworks to manage the business side of creative projects without compromising the artistic integrity of your work.

Workshop 3: Navigating Power Dynamics and Gender Inequality in Theatre Leadership

This session will address power dynamics and gender inequality in the theatre world, providing participants with the tools to navigate these challenges and create a more inclusive environment. Through case studies and discussions, participants will explore practical strategies for combating inequality and empowering other women in leadership roles.

Peer-to-Peer Coaching Session 1

These small-group sessions allow participants to discuss their leadership challenges, exchange advice, and brainstorm solutions together. With an external facilitator guiding the discussions, the coaching sessions offer a valuable opportunity to learn from your peers and receive support in a safe and open environment.

Peer-to-Peer Coaching Session 2

The second coaching session will offer continued peer support and provide further opportunities for deep reflection and problem-solving. Participants will be able to refine the ideas and strategies discussed during the first coaching session, ensuring they leave with practical solutions for the challenges they face in their leadership roles.

Timing: all meetings will take place over the lunch break from 12:00 to 13:30. Three in June and two in September 2025.
