Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre

Ukraine

The Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre was founded in 1920. Today the General and Artistic director of the theatre is Yevhen Nyshchuk, the Сhief director is Dmytro Bohomazov. The theatre has a cast of 128 people. Performances are staged on the Main and Chamber stages (over a thousand seats in total).

The repertoire of the theatre includes more than 50 performances of world and Ukrainian classics, as well as contemporary drama. The theatre is active in touring and festival activities.

Since the full-scale invasion, the theatre's employees have been involved in the volunteer movement and the defence of Ukraine on the war front. Special creative projects have become a response to the war. The theatre's repertoire also includes Caligula by Camus (directed by I. Uryvsky), Arturo Ui's Career, Which Could Have Been Stopped (directed by D.Bogomazov) and War by L. Nuren (directed by D.Petrosyan).

The theatre provides free tickets to the defenders of Ukraine and raises funds for the needs of the Ukrainian Army. The theatre finds the strength to function as a space for reflection and unity for audience, contributing to the resilience and recovery of Ukrainian society as a whole.
