Dramaten

The Royal Dramatic Theatre, in Sweden known as Dramaten, is Sweden’s national theatre. It operates on an assignment from the government that, amongst other things, states that the theatre should both treasure the history of the arts as well as work for its development. The theatre is fully owned by the Swedish state. The theatre was founded in 1788 by King Gustaf III. Since 1908 the theatre is located at Nybroplan in Stockholm. Dramaten currently has five stages. The main stage holds 770 people. Dramaten has recently, during a normal year, been giving around 1000 performances a year.
