Do artists have enough protection from political interference? Is it still possible to make work that shocks, thrills and enrages, in the context of decimated public funding and growing examples of political overreach?
This edition of the European Theatre Talks, titled ‘Democracy, Freedom and New Voices’, will focus on the global campaign for Artistic Freedom, RESISTANCE NOW TOGETHER. The speakers will reflect on empowering the wave of new voices, and the importance for artists of implementing policy tools such as the ‘Opole Recommendations’. The event will also launch the new Fabulamundi - New Voices casebooks on diversifying theatre, published by ETC.
Features interventions from Milo Rau, Artistic Director of Vienna Festival – Wiener Festwochen; Tiago Rodrigues, Artistic Director of the Festival d’Avignon; artists Luanda Casella and Mario Banushi, part of the Prospero New European Wave Platfrom; and the European Commission.

Stay tuned - we will soon announce our speakers!
