The Theaterhaus Jena is known for its spirit of experimentation in theatre forms as well as in organisational structures. It is an aesthetic laboratory, a springboard for young stage artists, and a pioneering theatre model between independent scene and municipal theatre.
The programme presents contemporary art in the whole variety of its forms: world premieres are featured alongside modern adaptations of classics, performance theatre and contemporary dance. Work with and for young people is an important part of the program, as does introducing new audiences to theatre.
Since the 2024/25 season, the artistic leadership has placed a stronger focus on the democratisation of theatre structures and on intensifying national and international collaboration.
